NAVIGATING COMPENSATION CONVERSATIONS
We are excited to deliver an engaging live, online class that will help you prepare for compensation conversations.
The stakes have never been higher. In today's unprecedented employment market, conversations about compensation and employee performance have become more common and, unfortunately, more difficult. This live, online class will help you understand what's at stake, identify danger zones, and drive your compensation discussions to a successful outcome.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
At the end of this two-hour live online class, you will be better prepared to hold effective compensation conversations with the members of your team.
Here are some of the specific topics we will address during the class.
We will explain how compensation conversations don't need to be stressful for you or the employee!
During any critical conversation, but compensation conversations in particular, framing the meeting the right way and establishing appropriate expectations can be the difference between a positive and a negative outcome. We'll discuss how to set the stage properly from the very beginning.
When discussing compensation or promotions, it's critical that you clearly define the decision-making process and criteria that were considered. You want to be certain that this is made clear to the employee well in advance of the decision being made, maximizing their opportunity to show success throughout the year.
One of the most important objectives of a compensation conversation is to establish and reinforce alignment. We want the employee to see and embrace the alignment between the organization's goals and objectives and their career goals and objectives. If these are genuinely aligned, even tough compensation messages can be softened. We will explain the value the organization delivers above and beyond financial compensation - these other tangible and intangible benefits can make all the difference in the world.
It has become somewhat of a cliche, but active listening is so important during critical workplace conversations. Soliciting and actively listening to the employee's perspectives and concerns, repeating and clarifying specific facts and positions, and ensuring they feel heard is vital. We'll expand on how to become a better active listener.
We never want this to happen, but the reality is these conversations don't always go as planned and can become uncomfortable or even contentious at times. We will discuss some things you can do to keep the meeting on track and drive towards a successful outcome.
We will also discuss soft skills and how important they are to the success of your conversation - be it virtual or in-person.
We will maintain an active chat throughout the session and will try to engage in Q&A throughout. We may also incorporate surveys and some other tools to drive engagement throughout the session.
We will discuss additional content and instruction your team should be considering around compensation conversations.
